CLASS 6 - GEOGRAPHY - CH 5 : MAJOR DOMAINS OF THE EARTH

Q.1 : What is Lithosphere ? What does it comprise of ?

Ans : The solid portion of the earth in which we live is called lithosphere . It comprises the rocks of the earth's crust and the thin layer of soil that contain nutrient elements which sustain organisms . 

Q.2 : What are the two main divisions of Earth surface ?

Ans : The two main divisons of earth surface are - continents and ocean basins.

Q.3 : Why is Earth called blue planet?

Ans : The Earth is called blue planet because more than 71% of the earth is covered with water .

Q.4 : What is global warming?

Ans : Carbon dioxide is an important constituent of air . But increase in the amount of carbon dioxide lead to increase in global temperatures as carbon dioxide absorbs heat . This is termed as global warming . 

Q.5 : Name some ways in which air get polluted?

Ans : Air gets polluted with emission from industries , thermal power plants and vehicles.

Q.6: Name the continents that surround the Pacific ocean?

Ans : The continents that surround the Pacific ocean are - Asia , Australia , North America and South America.

Q.8 : What are four major domains of the earth ?
